SPRINGFIELD — Four customers of the West Central Ohio Port Authority have agreed to file for a federal tax credit that they will give back to the authority for additional railroad maintenance, officials said Monday, Feb. 25.
"This, in a sense, is like a grant to do more maintenance on tracks and structures," said Larry Himes, port authority secretary-treasurer.

The four companies that will file for the credit are Champaign Landmark Inc., Southwest Landmark, Damewood Enterprises and Tech II, Inc., said Himes.
At Monday's meeting, the port authority's board of directors also approved a $44,933 contract with Columbus-based Jones-Stuckey Ltd. to prepare plans and specifications for a bridge replacement in Fayette County.
Himes said the entire project will cost about $700,000.
The port authority oversees 94.5 miles of track in five counties, including Clark, Champaign, Fayette, Logan and Madison County; 47 bridges, 70 at-grade crossings and culverts and field tiles.
