The destination might have been Tennessee, but a handful of students learned some international lessons.

A Destination Imagination team that included seven Clark County middle-schoolers finished 21st out of 68 teams worldwide in their challenge at the global finals.

"It was just amazing to see how many teams there were, how many people were there and how many people were there from around the world," said team member Avery Cross.

The creative, problem-solving competition held its global finals Wednesday through Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn.

The team from Rockway and Reid schools consisted of Cross, Andrea Davis, Tyler Detrick, London Tanner, Lauren Boudreau, Jacob Grover and Graham Welsh.

The students competed in the "Round About Courage" challenge. They had to develop a skit and props about a hero who had to overcome a challenge.

In order to make it this far, the team began practicing in December and won at the regional and state level.

A team from Dallas won the middle level challenge at the global competition, taking home medals and a trophy.

The Springfield team also served as ambassadors and met students from Poland, China, Korea and other countries.

"It was phenomenal," said Tracy Cross, team manager.
