SPRINGFIELD — After the giant snake and the guillotine, the next thing that comes to mind when you think of Alice Cooper is golf.

Strange but true.

But it's no more Mr. Nice Guy once Alice reads the November issue of Golf Digest — Griffin House is the better golfer, according to the magazine.

The homegrown singer-songwriter made the mag's annual list of the "top musicians who play golf."

House came in at No. 10. Alice is No. 11.

On a recent trip back home, nobody seemed more surprised — and maybe a little confused — than House himself.

"Everybody on the list is pretty extremely famous," he said. "Then it's me. How the hell did I get on this?"

The magazine ranked the 100 best musician-golfers, with Gatlin Brother Rudy Gatlin and Kenny G taking the top two spots.

But House, a golf standout in his days at North High, apparently is better than Huey Lewis, Justin Timberlake, Dweezil Zappa and the list goes on and on.

He's even better than Meat Loaf.

Shakira, if you're curious, is No. 100.

"It's mind-blowing," laughed House, who plays at Windy Knoll Golf Club whenever he's back. "I didn't think I'd be in the top 10 of anything in the world.

"It's freaking awesome."
