Local firms get state money to develop fuel cells

The Ohio Controlling Board released $1.25 million in Third Frontier awards to two Dayton-area companies, the board said Monday, April 21. The money will be used to develop fuel cell manufacturing technology and advancements in lithium-ion battery technology, the board said.
The board approved a $1 million fuel cell program award to UltraCell, a fuel cell technology company in Dayton. UltraCell will develop a semi-automated production process for manufacturing the company's portable micro fuel cell, the state said.

Get latest headlines via RSS feedsThe board also approved a $250,000 advanced energy program award to Inorganic Specialists of Miamisburg. The company has developed a conductor for lithium-ion batteries that has the potential to increase battery storage capacity by four times, the state said.
Both programs are part of Ohio's Third Frontier program. Since its inception in 2005, a state fuel cell initiative has helped to bring seven fuel cell companies to Ohio, the state said.
