MUH announces artists series lineup

For nearly 30 years the Miami University Hamilton Artist Series has brought a blend of rising stars and established performers in bluegrass, Latin, jazz, folk and R&B to the MUH campus.

"Our goal with the Artist Series is to provide an eclectic mix of live music not ordinarily seen elsewhere in the Greater Cincinnati area, at an affordable price," said Howard Epstein, educational psychology professor and coordinator of the series, in a press release.

The 2006-07 series includes:

• The Jerry Douglas Band, Sept. 9. Douglas is a nine-time Grammy winner, Country Music Academy Instrumentalist of the Year and a featured member of Alison Krauss and Union Station. He is widely regarded as the best dobro player in the world. $20 adults, $18 faculty/staff/senior citizen, $12 MU student and children 12 and younger.

• Cherryholmes, Oct. 21, a family band and current International Bluegrass Music Association Entertainers of the Year. $18 adults, $16 faculty/staff/senior citizen, $10 MU student and children 12 and younger.

• Victor Wooten, Nov. 4, bass player with Bela Fleck & the Flecktones and three-time Bass Player of the Year. $20 adults, $18 faculty/staff/senior citizen, $12 MU student and children 12 and younger.

• Sakesho, featuring Andy Narrell, Jan. 27. Narrell, who pioneered use of the steel pan drum in contemporary music, will perform Caribbean-influenced jazz music. $18 adults, $16 faculty/staff/senior citizen, $10 MU student and children 12 and younger.

• John Starling & Carolina Star, Feb. 24, features three original members of the bluegrass band Seldom Scene. $20 adults, $18 faculty/staff/senior citizen, $12 MU student and children 12 and younger.

• The Roches, March 31, three sisters known for their harmonies and lyrical perspective. $20 adults, $18 faculty/staff/senior citizen, $12 MU student and children 12 and younger.
