If you caught last night’s premiere of the fifth season of Duck Dynasty, you might have been taken aback by not one, but two brand new faces on your screen. While we’ve already discussed new addition Becca — Korie and Willie’s adoptive daughter — we knew nothing about John-David Owen, Korie’s cousin and Willie’s new assistant.
So who is this fresh beard joining our favorite Louisiana duck call moguls? Let’s learn a little more about him!
1. Despite appearances, he’s a total finance guy.
While the beard might give him the look of an outdoorsman, John-David actually graduated from University of Louisiana at Monroe with a degree in finance. Oh, and this is his first real job: He only just graduated in 2013!
2. He’s married — to his high school sweetheart.
JD and his high school girlfriend, Alyson Watson (in photo at left), were married in 2010. They may be young, but these two are clearly happy in love!
3. He likes to golf.
Just like funny guy Uncle Si, it seems that John-David is a fan of hitting the links, according to his Facebook photos. We’d love to see these two out hitting some balls together! Not to be outdone, JD also appears to be a major football aficionado, supporting The Saints, of course.
4. Yes, he had that beard before the show.
Lest you think this newbie grew his facial hair to fit in with the rest of the Duck Commander crew, you should know he had it long before he joined the cast. “I just hope my college professor was watching. ‘You'll never get a job if you don't shave that beard.’” he tweeted last night.
5. He and his wife are expecting! (We think.)
A little investigative digging on JD’s Twitter account reveals a photo from December where he’s holding a pair of baby duck hunting shoes. “Just bought my sons first pair of shoes! Can't wait til April!” he writes alongside the photo. Sounds like these two have a little bundle of joy on the way — congrats! What do you think of JD Owen joining the rest of the cast?
