This Saturday, Dec. 10 will mark the second annual Gingerbread Festival in Yellow Springs. It’s definitely a time you and the family won’t want to miss.

It starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. inside the Mills Lawn Elementary school gym at 200 S. Walnut St.

Santa will be stopping by the new holiday event to surprise the kids and take photos.

Here are some highlights of what to expect:

- A raffle of local gifts will be hosted by Santa

- Children can get their faces painted

- Kids can build and decorate their own mini cookie cottages

- Children can shop in the new Tyke shop to find gifts for their family. Each child will shop next to a student council elf to really get them into the holiday spirit.

- Before the festival ends, there will also be a presentation on Victorian Era Toys from President Theodore & Mrs. Roosevelt in the Mills Lawn Library at 1 p.m.

The cost to engage in these activities ranges from free to $6, and all proceeds benefit the elementary school. While enjoying the holiday festivities, cocoa and cookies will be provided to all guests.

Gingerbread House Baking Competition

The Yellow Springs community is fully engaged in a Gingerbread contest. Aspiring builders are asked to pick up the materials needed to design, bake and decorate their cookie houses at Tom’s Market or Downing's Hardware.

Judging for these entries will take place at the festival, and guests are welcome to join in on the fun.

Contest entry forms, along with the baked houses, should be completed and turned in between 10 and 11 a.m. on the day of the festival in order to contend in the gingerbread building competition. Visit here for entry form.
