Get in the holiday spirit: 4 things to do this weekend in Springfield

Looking for some things to do in your down time while you’re preparing for Thanksgiving next week?

Here are four events in the greater Springfield area that might fit the bill.

1. The Freedom Fund Banquet

The Springfield chapter of the NAACP will host its third annual Freedom Fund Banquet at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts & Conference Center, located at 275 S. Limestone St. in Springfield from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17. Those participating can enjoy live music and dancing. Tickets are $55 for general adult admission and $25 for adults under 26, and can be purchased through Eventbright.

2. Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Be part of the spirit of giving by attended the Santa Claus is Coming to Town event, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Miami View Elementary School, located at 230 Clifton Road in South Charleston.

Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available for purchase, provided by Champion City Photo. Sheets will cost $10 or $20 for three. A bake sale will also take place at the event. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Jayden Hillard Benefit.

3. Springfield Arts Council Wine Tasting 2017

Enjoy the world of wine by taking part in the Springfield Art Council's wine tasting, taking place at Buckeye Sports Lodge, located at 126 W. High St. in downtown Springfield from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18. Attendees will be able to taste dozens of wines and enjoy hors d'ouerves, as well as receive a complimentary wine glass. The SAC will also be holding a raffle with prizes including specialty wines and a chance to win your own private wine tasting. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased through the SAC website.

4. Santa’s Arrival at the Upper Valley Mall

Come and see Santa make a special Springfield appearance at the Upper Valley Mall on Saturday, Nov. 18. Free snacks and train rides will be provided to all attendees, and those attending will also be able to enter to win a $200 gift card to the mall. The festivities begin at 9 a.m. with Santa Claus due to arrive by horse and carriage at 10 a.m.
