Just under 80,000 people attended the Vectren Dayton Air Show July 17 and 18, show officials estimated.

“The show unmistakably affirmed its ranking as Dayton’s premier summer event,” organizers said in a press release.

For last year’s show, officials estimated that about 80,000 attended the event at the Dayton International Airport, perhaps the second-best attendance ever, they said at the time. That compared with two-day attendance of 57,000 in 2008 and 70,000 in 2007.

“We can’t be more pleased with the outcome of this year’s show,” Michael Emoff, chairman of the United States Air & Trade Show board of trustees, said in the show’s announcement.

This year’s show featured performances by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, aerobatic stunt pilot Sean D. Tucker, the AeroShell Demonstration Team and many others.

The 2011 event will feature the return of the aerospace trade and technology show as a show-affiliated event. It is tentatively scheduled for July 16 and 17, organizers said.
