Are you creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky or altogether ooky? If so, you could be cast in an upcoming production of “The Addams Family – A New Musical.”

The Ohio Performing Arts Institute will have open community auditions for singers, actors and dancers ages 12-adult with varied experience levels, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, at the OPAI, 1616 E. High St.

Previous experience isn’t necessary. Those auditioning should prepare a song, preferably in the musical theater genre; an accompanist will be provided and recorded accompaniment is strongly encouraged.

Call backs will be the following day, 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15.

The show is based on the ghoulish characters created by Charles Addams for a cartoon panel, and later as a popular 1960s television series. The musical opened on Broadway in 2010.

This production will be performed March 16-18 at the John Legend Theater and be directed and choreographed by D. Scot Davidge and Jay Hale will be the musical director for the first time for OPAI.

“This is just a fun show, it’s hysterical,” said Davidge, OPAI’s artistic director and founder. “There’s some great singing and we’ll be looking for strong singers.”

There will be around 20 parts available.

This will be a return to doing theatrical shows for OPAI, which also does dance concerts, variety shows and the annual performance of “The Nutcracker” each December.

Davidge said the John Legend Theater is the perfect size for this type of show and will be a good place to show off OPAI’s production crew’s skills.

Performers cast will be given their script immediately and have about six weeks to put together the show.
