SPRINGFIELD — It’s enough to make you throw up some jazz hands in utter disgust — that, before his death in 1987, Bob Fosse never got one of those Kennedy Center Honors.
Never got to wear one of those rainbow medals or sit in a presidential box seat.
No, they gave Elton John one, and he’s not even American.
The late, great Fosse — the stage and screen legend who made up the moves for “Chicago” and “Cabaret” — is still a much beloved figure in the theater and dance worlds more than two decades after his demise.
His legacy will be the focus of attention at 8 p.m. Feb. 6 when Thodos Dance Chicago returns to Kuss Auditorium to cap off another weeklong residency through the Clark State Performing Arts Center.
Thodos will perform a “Fosse Trilogy” — three works he choreographed in the 1960s, re-created last fall by Ann Reinking, the choreographer who won a Tony for the late ’90s revival of “Chicago.”
Other works will be on the program, in addition to a new Thodos work by Springfield’s Gary Geis Dance Company.
As for the residency, the following events are free:
• Feb. 2 — Thodos performs a family show, “Dancing Green,” at 7 p.m. at the Heritage Center to raise awareness about the environment.
• Feb. 4 — A short performance will be followed by a Q&A and a wine and cheese reception at the Westcott House at 7 p.m.
• Feb. 6 — Talk Fosse (and dance in general) with a light brunch at 10:30 a.m. at the Springfield Museum of Art.
