Georgia State Patrol has confirmed Robert Lewis Burns Jr., 64, died in a single-car crash.
Around 11:56 p.m. Friday, Burns' vehicle went off the road while approaching a curve.
Burns' vehicle hit a mailbox and a tree.
Police say Burns was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Burns was a member of the original lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Burns helped form the band in 1964 and left the band in 1974.
Fans took to social media to pay their respects.
