SPRINGFIELD — This is probably a cruel reminder to those of you who weren’t fast enough to score tickets to David Cook’s show at Kuss Auditorium on Wednesday, May 27.
Then again, in your defense, you had to be about as fast as a cheetah on the Serengeti to get one (or 10 to resell on eBay).
The show sold out in three minutes.
If it makes you feel any better, though, Cook isn’t what he used to be — he’s no longer the reigning American Idol.
Kris Allen was crowned the nation’s new Idol this week, leaving Cook to, well, do whatever former Idols do.
In the case of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, it’s rocket to even bigger heights.
In the case of Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks ... they should be coming to the Summer Arts Festival any year now.
Cook already is off to a good start — released last fall, his self-titled debut has gone platinum.
And he’s already sorta made history. A week after winning the seventh season of “American Idol,” Cook dumped 11 songs onto the Billboard Hot 100 — the most in one week since the Beatles back in 1964. (The biggest of them, “The Time of My Life,” made it up to No. 3.)
Oh, and if you still really, really wanna go to this show, there’s still a chance.
At last check, some tickets were available on eBay.
One auction, for two tickets, was up to $60.
Another auction, for four tickets, had a “Buy it Now” price of $500.
So how bad do you really want to see yesterday’s Idol?
