MASON — Duke electric company said it was not the source of an outage that lasted a couple of hours at Ohio amusement park Kings Island on the Fourth of July.

Rides and stores at the park in Warren County shut down when power failed about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Duke Energy spokeswoman Sally Thelen said Tuesday, July 6, that the problem was caused by equipment owned by Kings Island, not the utility.

Kings Island did not immediately return a call for comment.

Park spokesman Don Helbig said earlier that most power was restored within three hours and the park did not issue refunds to customers.
