Dunkin’ Donuts to roll out new breakfast sandwich

Paula Deen's 'The Lady's Brunch Burger' from FoodNetwork.com (three servings)

What you will need:

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

3 tablespoons freshly chopped parsley leaves

2 tablespoons grated onion

House Seasoning, recipe follows

2 tablespoons butter

3 eggs

6 slices bacon, cooked

3 hamburger buns

3 English muffins

6 glazed donuts

What you do:

•Mix the ground beef, chopped parsley and grated onion together in a large mixing bowl. Season liberally, with House Seasoning. Form 3 hamburger patties.

• Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Add the burgers and cook until desired temperature, 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare.

• Fry bacon in a hot pan until crisp. Remove and drain on paper towels. Set aside.

• While burgers are cooking, heat a non-stick pan, over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons butter. Crack 3 eggs into the pan. Cook until the yolks are just set and still slightly runny and remove.

• Place burger patties on English muffins or buns, and if desired, on glazed donuts, as the buns. Top each burger with 2 pieces of bacon and a fried egg.

House Seasoning:

1 cup salt

1/4 cup black pepper

1/4 cup garlic powder

Mix ingredients together and store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

As if a glazed donut wasn’t tasty enough, Dunkin’ Donuts plans to add bacon and eggs.

The chain will roll out its Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich Friday at participating restaurants.

That’s right, my friends: Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich.

This will surely be a bigger deal in the Miami Valley in a few months.

There is currently only one Dunkin’ Donuts location is the Dayton area. That restaurant is located at 7777 Springboro Pike (Ohio 741) in Miami Twp., just north of the Dayton Mall.

The chain earlier this year announced it will open 13 stores in the Dayton area. The first opening is planned for 2014.

The new sandwich might seem like the perfect ingredient for a heart attack, but it may not be so bad.

It has 360 calories, according to Dunkin’ Donuts’ website, and consist of a fried egg and cherrywood-smoked bacon inside a split glazed donut.

There are other donut sandwiches out there, of course.

Take the Luther Burger or the Krispy Kreme Donut.

Food Network star Paula Deen, America's former Butter Queen, calls her donut burger The Lady Brunch Burger. See recipe below.

Stan Frankenthaler, Dunkin Donuts' executive chef and vice president of Global Product Innovation, called his company's new sandwich "fun and quirky" in a post on its website.

“The glazed donut is light and fluffy and gives you just the right amount of sweetness. Combined with the lightly salted, smoked bacon, the texture and flavors marry together in a wonderful way. It’s a delicious bite of the perfect harmonization of sweet and savory flavors,” he said in answering a question about the sandwich’s taste.

What do you think? Will you try the Glazed Donut Breakfast Sandwich?
