July 14, 1970: One of the most memorable All-Star Games in the 81-year history of the event, the National League beat the American League in the 12th inning when the Reds’ Pete Rose bowled over Cleveland’s Ray Fosse at home plate for the winning run. The game was played at Riverfront Stadium, which had just opened two weeks earlier due to construction delays. Rose, who went 1-for-3 with a walk after replacing Hank Aaron in the fifth inning, was one of four Reds to appear in the game, joining starting first baseman Tony Perez (0-for-3) and starting catcher Johnny Bench (0-for-3), along with second baseman Joe Morgan (1-for-2, run scored).
