Teradata announces focus on data philanthropy

Miami Twp.-based Teradata announced a new data philanthropy initiative to bring data analytics technology to social charities around the world.

Teradata officials said the company plans to help nonprofit organizations to address their data problems, and to use the analytics to better serve their clientele needs.

Teradata has launched the initiative in partnership with DataKind, a nonprofit that matches data scientists with nonprofit and non-governmental organizations that have large amounts of data but lack the resources to analyze them, officials said.

The first Teradata-sponsored DataKind event was held July 26-28 in London, England, under the direction of DataKind UK. The free weekend event, known as DataDive, brought together data-expert volunteers with selected charities and public sector organizations to share experience and find solutions to their data-related challenges.

Teradata has about 400 employees at its world headquarters in Miami Twp.
