20 places where you can get free tax help

You can get free tax preparation help at several sites throughout our region this year.

The Internal Revenue Service announced last week that it plans to open the 2013 tax filing season and start processing individual income tax returns on Jan. 30. The deadline to file your tax return is April 15, unless you file for an extension.

To help you get organized, we bring you a sampling of 20 locations in our area where free tax preparation guidance is or will be available through resources including AARP and the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

Please call these locations before heading out for more details and to find out if you qualify for free tax help. An appointment is required at several of these sites.
