$7.5M Love’s Travel Stop opens in Springfield, adds 50 jobs

A travel stop along Interstate 70 in Springfield has finally opened, bringing 50 jobs to Clark County more than three years after plans were first announced.

The 20-acre, $7.5 million Love’s Travel Stop located at the I-70 and Ohio 41 interchange opened Thursday morning.

“It’s a solid location,” said Paige Perkins, district manager for Love’s Division 1930. “We’ve been working on it for a couple of years now. We’re excited to get it open. It’s going to offer full travel stop amenities.”

It was first announced in September of 2013. The site at 4725 South Charleston Pike was formerly occupied by the Prime Fuel station.

The truck stop will be open 24 hours a day and has about 110 truck parking spots and 18 gas pumps. It includes a convenience store and Subway restaurant, both of which are also open. A Wendy’s restaurant will also open there soon, Perkins said.

It also has a Love’s Truck Tire Care center that offers mechanical services for truck drivers, as well as a 90-foot digital pricing sign along I-70.

The 12,000-square-foot travel stop is Love’s 10th location in Ohio. The Oklahoma City-based company has 440 locations across the country.

Truck driver Anthony Hampton, an Indiana resident who drives through Clark County about three times per week, parked his truck Thursday afternoon at the new Love’s. It’s in a convenient location, he said.

“I was surprised it was here,” Hampton said.

The restaurants will make it much more convenient for people who live south of the interstate, South Charleston resident Tyler King said.

“You don’t have to drive all the way into (East Main Street),” King said.

Love’s will celebrate the opening by donating $2,000 to the United Way of Clark, Champaign and Madison Counties. The donation will be presented at a ribbon cutting at 9 a.m. Feb. 7 in conjunction with the Chamber of Greater Springfield.
