Speedway to hire 1,000 workers across 9 states

Speedway will hire 1,000 workers in nine Midwest states and will host open interviews at each of its stores in the region later this month.

The convenience store chain, with a headquarters in Enon, will host open interviews from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25 at every one of its stores in nine states, according to information from the company. States on the list include Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Michigan, Illinois, West Virginia, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Indiana.

Speedway is one of Clark County’s largest employers with about 1,350 workers locally and about 33,820 nationally. The company is the second-largest chain of company-owned and operated convenience stores in the U.S. with about 2,270 stores in 22 states overall.

The chain is looking to fill a variety of positions, including shift leader trainees and co-manager trainees. A variety of full and part-time positions are also available, including customer service representatives and food service specialists.

Interested candidates are encouraged to attend the open interviews in person. But residents who are unable can complete an application at speedway.com or at the nearest store location. The company offers a 401K plan, tuition reimbursement and health coverage among its benefits.

In 2014, Speedway completed a $2.8 billion acquisition of Hess Retail Holdings, an East Coast convenience store chain. Speedway already operated about 1,500 stores across the U.S., mostly in Midwestern states like Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.

Company officials at Marathon, Speedway's parent company, said earlier this month they will form a committee to study whether it makes sense to spin off the Enon-based convenience store chain, part of a series of moves company leaders said are intended to create more value for shareholders.
