$7.5M Love’s Travel Stop set to open in Clark County in January

A new, $7.5 million Love’s Travel Stop will likely open in Clark County next month after several delays.

The 20-acre project located at the Interstate 70 and Ohio 42 interchange was announced in September 0f 2013. It will bring 60 jobs to Clark County.

“This has been an ongoing process and there have been some delays, but we are expecting to open in January of 2017,” said Cory Herrmann, 40, who will be the general manager of the property.

Herrmann gave the Springfield News-Sun exclusive access to the final phases of the Travel Stop’s construction process.

The center includes and parking for up to 100 trucks and seven individual shower areas that resemble mini-locker rooms that are accessible for people with disabilities. It will also house 24-hour-a-day Subway and Wendy’s restaurants.

Herrmann said he’s excited to see the launch is right around the corner.

“This is the perfect location and will be a busy spot and will bring much needed quality jobs to the area,” he said. “It’s going to also be a place that people locally can travel to and get everything from clothes, snacks, batteries, drinks and food.”

Love’s was founded in 1964 in Oklahoma. It has more than 400 locations in 40 states, annual revenues of more than $22 billion.

Nationwide it has about 15,000 employees. Love’s will hold open interviews for the positions in Clark County from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today at OhioMeansJobs Clark County, 1345 Lagonda Ave.

Open jobs include cashiers, restaurant workers and tire technicians. Health, dental and vision insurance are being offered for some positions.

Residents can also apply online as well at www.loves.com/careers. For more information call Herrmann at 513-370-1025 or email cory.herrmann@loves.com.

“It is exciting and I’ve been feeling that way since I learned that I would be the general manager here,” he said. “I have been in Kentucky working for Love’s the past two years. I learned I was going to be the GM about three months ago. I grew up outside of Eaton, Ohio, so it feels good to be coming back home to the state and managing this property.”

Horton Hobbs, vice president for economic development at the Chamber of Greater Springfield, said the project will help bring jobs to the area.

“It’s been a while coming since the whole development was talked about in the community and now to see it come to fruition is really exciting,” Hobbs said. “It is going to provide much needed service to the new industrial park in terms of servicing truck traffic and it is a welcome to that area and to the community.”
