Downtown Springfield venue launches grand re-opening, new menu items

The downtown Springfield bar scene is about to get a little more lively.

The Voodoo Moon House of Blues and Brews, located at 42 N. Fountain Ave. in Springfield, will celebrate its grand re-opening on Friday, Oct. 13. Doors will open to the public starting at 5 p.m.

The venue, formerly known as the Champion City Sports Club, will be bringing lots of new fare to its line-up, including nitro coffee — cold brew coffee that has been infused with nitrogen to give it a creamy texture similar to traditional stouts like Guinness — and “al’cachinos,” alcohol-infused cafe drinks.

Renea Turner, president of the company, said the grand re-opening will be the first of a series of planned new bars opening under the Voodoo Moon name. Other locations are planned for Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, with a Dayton location also slated to open this Christmas.

Several activities are planned for the Springfield re-opening, including an al’cachino tasting and live music. Country-blues band Creeks Don’t Rise is set to take the stage at 9 p.m.

Turner said there will also be a ladies’ night preview Thursday, Oct. 12, that will host the Flying Pepper, a Springfield-based Mexican food truck.A comedy show on Saturday, Oct. 14, will feature Springfield native Marc ED. Tickets for the show are $20 and seating is limited.

Students from Wittenberg University will also be hosting a haunted house in the basement under the venue through the end of October to raise money for activities.

The bar is scheduled to be open Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
