American Girl store to open in Columbus

Ohio’s first American Girl store offering dolls and accessories will open June 22 at the Easton Town Center in Columbus.

The 11,500-square-foot “experiential retail store” is part of mall developer Steiner & Associates’ plans to create a 40,000-square-foot district at Easton with 15 new stores dedicated to family-oriented retailers.

The American Girl store will offer historical and contemporary dolls, along with doll outfits, accessories, girl-sized clothing, and American Girl books. In addition, the store will feature a 24-seat bistro, doll hair salon and a “Creativi-Tees” boutique for designing doll-sized T-shirts.

American Girl stores typically draw from a 200-mile radius and are geared to be destinations in themselves, according to Shopping Centers Today, an industry trade publication.

American Girl, a division of Mattel Inc., was founded in 1986, when its dolls were sold through catalogs.

The Easton store will be American Girl’s 15th retail location. The popular retail and entertainment stores have drawn more than 46 million visitors to date, company officials said.
