An interview with Sean Thackrey

The best wine-related read on the web coming out of this frigid weekend isn’t a read at all, but in fact, a video interview. The fine folks at CHOW.com have posted an interview with winemaker extraordinaire Sean Thackrey. Some good stuff here.

Speaking of good stuff, does anybody else recall his fine syrah-based Orion wines of many years ago, before prices skyrocketed?

They were celestial.

I do indeed remember the Orion wines before the prices turned stellar. They were never cheap wines, to be certain, but they were affordable and made a nice “special occasion” wine. We had the ‘92 Orion on our honeymoon in 2000 and it was still a baby of a wine. Sadly, we just drank our last bottle - a ‘96. “Hunting” for more could be a pricey endeavour.

This is a must-see. Sean is one of those people who was in the right place in the right time, with the right ideas… For those who ever start to think wine-making is only a commercial venture, which for many it is, this is one of many who know wine-making is truly an art. On that note, recall Robert Louis Stevenson said “and the wine is bottled poetry” of Napa… Sean is true to the roots of wine-making.
