Emmanuel just wants respect
SPRINGFIELD — Danny Moore understands a 31-point loss to Jefferson is part of the process of becoming a great basketball program.
“No matter what, it’s a team I’m glad we faced,” Moore said. “I wanted to face them, I wanted to see where we were at.”
It’s also a part of learning to become a great team and program. As Emmanuel Christian Academy continues to improve, they’ll get more and more respect as a program.
The fact that Jefferson, which touts 6-10 Michigan State University recruit Adreian Payne, would come to Springfield to play them shows Moore’s team is starting to get some R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
“That’s all we’ve ever wanted,” Moore said. “I get phone calls now. Teams want to play us now. We’ll get (the team) where we need to be and we’ll compete.”
The Lions turned heads earlier this week with a 16-point Metro Buckeye Conference victory over Dayton Christian, a Division III state semifinalist last season. It proved they’re a legit contender in the MBC even in their first season in the league.
They struggled in the early going against Jefferson, but played with them at times throughout the second and third quarters.
The schedule shows the Lions are gaining steam with opponents around the area. They’ll face tough teams the rest of the way, including conference foe Yellow Springs (which has the makings of a great rival for the Lions), Catholic Central, Mechanicsburg and Miami East.
While the Lions may struggle, they’re on the right track earning what they’ve always wanted — respect.

No one really cares about Emmanuel. Its a school of five kids. Play KR, Shawnee, Springfield, and even SCC. Beat a couple of local teams and then earn your respect!!!
