DePriest gets OSU football offer

Springfield High School linebacker Trey DePriest opened his mail on Tuesday, Sept. 2, to find a football scholarship offer from Ohio State.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior linebacker has offers from 10 other schools, and among those are five official offers. DePriest was excited, but will stay low-key, a trait he learned from his grandfather, Ronald DePriest.

“I am excited, but I like to keep myself humble,” Trey said. “You can’t let it go to your head, because that’s when things start to go bad. I’m just chill. That’s just the type of person that I am.”

Because DePriest has plenty of time to make a decision, he’s letting the recruiting process play out.

“I’m still going into everything with open eyes and let everything come in time,” he said. “I’ve got this year and all of next year to make a decision.”

DePriest has official offers from West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Duke, Stanford and Notre Dame. Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Michigan and Central Michigan have given verbal offers.

I’m interested to see how many more schools go after him. He should have his choice from the cream of the crop.
