Reds fans have spoken (and they like Brandon Phillips)
The Sports Illustrated major league baseball fan surveys are out, and here’s what Reds fans have to say: They can afford to go, but they don’t like the product on the field.
Those are among the things we’ve learned from fans from the annual survey. There are some surprises, though.
The one that sticks out most is that the fans say the player “most worth paying to watch” is Brandon Phillips, with 35.6 percent of the vote. Ken Griffey Jr. is behind him, at 31.7 percent. And, I guess Adam Dunn’s home runs don’t top his shaky defense — he got 7.4 percent.
As you might expect, the fans also rated themselves above average to excellent in fan intelligence and hospitality. Said one responder in the hospitality section:
“The Cubs fans who come to GAB tend to be the ones who cause the problems. Reds fans are so ‘Midwestern nice’ that they don’t harass other fans much. I have seen several incidents where an opposing fan’s beer was deliberately bumped/spilled/knocked over, but that’s as bad as it gets.”
Or, for a funnier take on “What is the worst incident you’ve witnessed against an opposing fan or yourself?” another replied:
“Watching the Reds’ bullpen last year.”
Baseball’s top-ranked team, meanwhile, is the Cleveland Indians. Funniest fan comment? It came, again, from the hospitality question:
“Just a touch of ‘You Suck’ chants. It’s nowhere near as violent as a Browns game.”
