R.I.P. Dominic’s
Well, they closed Dominic’s a while ago, and now they’ve finally gotten around to tearing down the building.
The old brick joint on S. Main in Dayton is now a pile of dusty rubble…
We’re tracking down an unconfirmed report that the demolition team discovered a gigantic, monster-sized clove of garlic in a hidden sub-basement … sucker weighed 14 tons and was 40 feet around, with all kinds of catheters and hoses sticking out of it…
Now we know…

All of it is sad. Our memory of a dinner, of all things, can linger in the back of our minds for a lifetime. A dinner?! What was the occasion? Who was there? What were we celebrating? Was it festive? I can name names at varous dinners we had at Dominic’s…and the last time I ate there was in the 90’s. (Live out of town). All of us see our lanyards being lowered. We former Daytonians don’t want our past there at “HOME” to vanish, but know that it appears it will…and in various stages. I understand business can be brutal, my frustration comes from being helpless to keep a Dayton landmark operating. I enjoyed my “past”/”times”/”dinners” at Dominic’s…I suppose more than I realized. Too late now. I’ll visit Dayton again in July. My past is just that, as I will pass by where Dominic’s used to stand. I’ll smile…but sadness will overcome me. It was more than food. It was home.By I won't be going to MVH anymore

So sad!! I spent many lunch hours there when I worked downtown. We also had my Dad’s 70th Birthday party which is such a happy memory for our family. I had a lot of good times and great food there. No other Italian restaurant could touch Dominics, in my opinion. At least my husband has created a garlic salad that closely resembles theirs! So long, Dominics - you’ll be missed.By the Strawboss

I loved that place. My favorite was always the Italian Feast and I would order the house salad large with blue cheese sprinkles. KVI (Kettering Village Inn) and now Dominic’s. Two classics that are now just a memoryBy Michael

It’s sad to see the pictures of Dominic’s being taken down. So long old friend—we really miss Pat, a great server that worked there for nearly 40 years!By Neely

I keep hearing rumors that Dominic’s was going to reopen in the Brown Street area near UD. Is this true? Because those of us who are faithful to the garlic have been needing a fix for a long time now…By Brother Phil

Well, I guess that explains that strange garlic smell that still seeps out of my pores. I moved away from Dayton ten years ago, but used to love going to Dominic’s. People could smell your breath a block away if you ate their tossed salad with the house dressing, and they would yell at you, “Hey, d’ya just eat at Dominic’s?” Sad to say goodbye…By Riverdale Ghost
