What if Lakota’s levy fails

Lakota’s School Board of Education will meet Monday in a special meeting to hear a presentation from Superintendent Mike Taylor about what would happen in the levy in November does not pass.

Taylor is expected to announce his plans to cut the budget to accommodate the expected $10 million shortfall in 2012.

Here is an announcement from the district’s meeting last night.

You will notice my story today talks about a recall of teachers and support staff members. Board members have said these are positions that had to be filled to keep the district running. They aren’t the same positions that were cut at the end of the last school year. Due to the way the two unions operate, employees with the least seniority were cut. They remained; however, on a list to be recalled once other positions opened up. So, as Lakota fills those positions, it still has kept many positions unfilled in order to save money. Here is an example of how this works: You have to have a chemistry teacher. So, if a chemistry teacher leaves, then Lakota would either have to recall a teacher certified to teach that subject, or hire someone who is qualified. Just wanted to clarify in response to a reader comment.

When it fails hopefully Taylor will be fired and the district can move on. Parents will have to step up and pay for their kids to play sports. No,NO, No’s until Taylor goes!

The levy does not stand a chance in hell of passing with the recent actions of taylor and the board. It is time for Taylor to go and the board to be replaced. When it fails I’ll move my kids to a school system that values education and supports the kids. Lakota will be able to kiss my XXX.

You’all are never happy…no matter what school your kids are going to. You will complain, rant and rave. Maybe your company should cut your position and the rest of your new to hire younger ‘fresh blood’. I think it would be a great move for your companies future productivity.

I think it is appalling the scare tactics that the Board is putting on the parents in the community. There are at least 5 articles written each week on this subject that is For the Levy…don’t be fooled…Advertising is BOUGHT by the School Board to cause panic. I see the new bus scare and it is awful that they are making as young as 6 year olds walk to bus stop over 50 houses away with no sidewalks…NICE on whoever plans this stuff…you SHOULD be FIRED—will it have to become a death of a child’s saftey to make the board see the MISTAKES they make!
