“Lakota is a district on the brink”

I am at the Lakota Local School Board meeting, and Superintendent Mike Taylor has made another presentation about Lakota’s funding situation.

“We truly are a school district that I would consider to be on the brink of financial disaster and we will look very different when we open our doors Aug. 25 for this particular school year,” he said.

Lakota recently sent a letter outlining the effects of the $8.2 million in cuts effective at the start of this school year. The impact includes larger class sizes, reductions in transportation services, elimination of class offerings at the secondary level and fewer staff members.

How have these cuts impacted you? Have you felt them in your family? I would like to hear from you. Feel free to comment here or e-mail me.
