One Region 4 semi could be in Dayton

Without a Centerville win tonight, it may not matter. But OHSAA Assistant Commissioner Hank Zaborniak said an all-Dayton Division I, Region 4 semifinal could potentially be moved to Welcome Stadium.

The No. 6-seeded Elks face No. 3 Elder at The Pit tonight, Nov 1. The winner will take on the victor between No. 2 Northmont and No. 7 Fairmont.

The other bracket features No. 1 Colerain against No. 8 Moeller and No. 4 Wayne hosting No. 5 Cincinnati Woodward.

Earlier this season, Zaborniak announced the Region 4 semifinals would be held in a doubleheader format at the University of Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium.

“We set it up because of the last few years we’ve had three out of four semifinal teams have been Cincinnati teams,” Zaborniak said. “We wanted to have one placed locked in.”

That drew at least the curiosity, if not the ire, of Centerville coach Ron Ullery and Northmont coach Lance Schneider.

“If it’s us and Centerville and they don’t put that at Welcome … ” Schneider said. ” You don’t think they’ve bowed (before) to the Cincinnati Catholic schools? That game should be up in Dayton where it belongs.”

In 2005, the Centerville-Wayne regional semifinal rematch was played at Paul Brown Stadium, in part because that facility was already paid for.

“If you have three Dayton teams in the regional semis, why on earth would the thing be in Cincinnati?” Ullery asked. “That’s just not right. Then you’re not thinking about the kids, fans and communities. But, we’ve got to wait until the first week is over.”

When asked about the possibility of Centerville winning and setting up a GWOC rematch in the regional semifinals, Zaborniak this week said there is a contingency plan.

“We’ll know better on Sunday morning,” Zaborniak said. “We would not want to make two Dayton teams go to Cincinnati if we have the option.”

So Northmonts coach is upset the games COULD be played at Nippert.OHSAA plans on the most crowds for a game and thus has it at Nippert. Dayton teams would not have the same crazy fans as one at Nippert with Cincy teams. $$ is the main concern of the OHSAA Face this fact. 30,000 at Nippert or 10,000 at UD??

Hey Ullery, dont go for it on 4 and 3 at your own 30 yard line and this would not have been a problem. P.S. Pass the ball sometime, Its getting old…like you

Hey RJ from Miamisburg, undoubtedly you have never followed your team to the playoffs. Oh that is right you have to make the playoffs first. It sucks having to travel to Cincinnati to watch two Dayton area teams play. It should be at Welcome if it works out that way.

Bubba, I only Live in the Burg. No kids in the schools. I also follow the Steelers in Pros, Don’t need to live in Pittsburgh to do that, thus don’t care what happens to Msbg Fb. I want to watch the BEST HS FB in Ohio, so will drive to Cincy for that. OHSAA cares about $$$ not who0 plays Cincy brings in the $$. Dayton teams don’t. 30,000 Cincy team at Nippert to 10,000 at UD. Yeah right. TBC

Con’t— Score right now at half time Elder 28-C-Ville 7. Elder has 293 total yards to C-Villes 137. ALSO 2500 unsold C-Ville tickets for the game. Do you see why NOW the OHSAA wants Cincy teams in the playoff and at Nippert. They make money off Cincy teams seeing how the schools flock to Nippert for the games…Go to Cincy .com and get the up dates. Colerain up 10-0 over Moe. No Kids in Elder BTW..TBC

Good Night-Why the name calling. You don’t know me nor do I know you. If you can’t handle the facts of Dayton Vs Cincy HS FB, then how many State Champ in HS FB does Dayton Have..Cincy has 5 of the last 6 Div 1 Champs. The past 6 years Cincy went 3 in a row. Elder back to back, then Colerain-then St X, them someone else then St X. Check back with how Nmont has done against Cincy teams in their payoff games..38-7 Vs Elder in 03 and 35-3 Vs Colerain..So you don’t like me, not running for any office Get over it already. As I said I don’t need to follow the Home town team to like FB. I didn’t go to OSU but follw them.D’Oh. Elder up 31-7 in 3rd-Coerain 10-3 Vs Moe.

I tell you what! Elder beat Ctrville because any team can key on the run. If you force them to pass game over. The upcoming game between Elder and Ntmont will go down to the last play….mark my word that one. They will not be able to be pass happy on the Ntmont defense. This will be a defensive battle that is decided by turnovers. Lets play ball.

Centerville beating Elder…HA! I am so tired of Dayton teams thinking they belong. The reason the games are in Cincy is because (1) the best teams are in Cincy and (2) the best facilities are in Cincy. Welcome is an armpit and the worst possible place to play post-season football. Period.

How about a bunch of cincy idiots coming on here and pounding their chests about where a football game is played… It’s HIGH SCHOOL football folks… If you want to talk about the “best” high school football in Ohio, you don’t have to look far but it’s not in Cincy or Dayton. Ever heard of the MAC? If you don’t know what I’m talking about you are an idiot and don’t even know Ohio high school football.

Seems to me that C’ville, Wayne, Northmont, etc, having to play the Cincy schools that are free to recruit to build their teams isn’t a fair practice. The Dayton schools build powerful teams from the talent they have. Cincy can’t play by the same rules and win.

Fairplay08, that is utter nonsense. Typical small towners complaining about the bigger schools in the nearby larger cities. Colerain has been one of the best teams in Ohio the past 4-5 years and they are a large public school that is not free to “recruit” as you say. St. X and Moeller both have a LONG tradition of being football schools. Parents pay to send their kids there so they can play great ball. Elder is a Cincinnati West Side school, they don’t recruit. Kids that grow up on the west side of Cincy simply go to Elder to play good ball….it’s what they do. If you want to look at selecting players look up at Cleveland. Those clowns allow public students to cross district lines to attend different public schools. It’s why Glenville is #1 this year, and why Ohio State has recruited virtually their entire roster the past few years. Moreover, how do you “recruit” out of middle school anyway? The kids are 12-13 years old. Grow up and stop crying. Cincinnati Schools beat Dayton Schools because they are bigger and better. That’s all there is to it.
