Panthers Purring After 0-3 start
Last season Springboro was an up-and-comer in area football. This year the team is the reigning GWOC South champs and it is 2-0 in the division (4-3 overall) after Friday night’s convincing 35-14 win over Miamisburg in the Dayton Daily News Game of the Week.
Star of the Game: Wide receiver Beau Sauley grabbed four passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns. The speedy Sauley has come on strong after injuries shelved him after the third game last season.
Honorable Mention: Lineman Lucas Staton wreaked havoc defensively with two sacks and numerous tackles.
Turning point: Sophomore of promise Kyle King, a marauding linebacker, recovered a fumble on a punt return with 3:31 to go in the first half. Five plays later Taylor Franz scored from six yards out, putting the Panthers up 21-0.
What this means: Surging Boro is serious about defending its GWOC South crown, winning its fourth straight game.
Quote: “Miamisburg had us sweating bullets, bottling up our running game so we came out throwing in the second half,” said Boro coach Ryan Wilhite. “We would like to be the team dictating. We have work ahead of us and we’re going to have to establish a running game against Xenia next week.”
On deck: Boro will host Xenia in a pivotal GWOC South clash next Friday.
