Dog prays at Japanese Zen temple
This is just a little too cute not to share.
According to an AP article…
“NAHA, Japan — At a Zen Buddhist temple in southern Japan, even the dog prays. Mimicking his master, priest Joei Yoshikuni, a 1 1/2-year-old black-and-white Chihuahua named Conan joins in the daily prayers at Naha’s Shuri Kannondo temple, sitting up on his hind legs and putting his front paws together before the altar.”

Area pet runner up in national photo contest
I was checking out the winners of the Humane Society of the United States “Spay Day USA 2008 Photo Contest” and saw “Brian, Oakwood, Ohio” and it jumped out at me.
Brian’s cat’s name is Wally and, according to the caption, the owner suffers from depression and Wally helps lift his spirits. While Wally is a cat and this blog is devoted to dogs, there are also dogs who were finalists in the contest. And who doesn’t like looking at cute pets?
I always find it nice to see people from close by win national contests. It is exciting that our area gets represented. And I also love to see the various ways our pets help us through life in so many unexpected ways.
You can see the grand prize winner and all the finalists here. Wally is number 3 in the slide show.
The Humane Society of the United States held the contest to raise awareness of the importance to spay and neuter pets. The contest raised tens of thousands of dollars to benefit the spay/neuter efforts. The actual Spay Day USA was Feb. 26, 2008.
