That was really nice having to explain to my son, the profanity of Ken Griffey, Jr. saying “F* You” on your TV broadcast after a home run. It was loud and clear, right in the television camera, and the TV broadcast crew wouldn’t even apologize for the behavior.

It’s sad when you let a has been like Griffey run your organization with such rudeness, and then you won’t even apologize afterwards.

The FYOU and throat slash was the final straw in a terrible 8 year experience—- just think we didn’t sign Greg Vaughn and Mike Cameron to sign the Griff and I was as excited as anyone. Don’t lie. New ballpark. Superstar. It didn’t work out.

If Griff had played on New York for the Yankees he would have been mince meat in two years. He should thank God that he plays in a used to be baseball town where no one really cares anymore.

Griffey had a chance to be one of the greatest of all times but got lazy. I remember watching him warm up before a game in St.Louis, first year he joined the Reds. Ball cap on backwards, half-*ssed working out on his own while the team worked out together, big grin on his face for the camera. Ever since he has played with very little fire and commitment, and it drags his teams down. What a waste of a career.

I think Brantley,s comment about the reds corner outfielders was very true. Griffey,s defense has really hurt the reds pitching. His attitude has hurt the rest of the ballclub. Hopefully he will be gone nex,t year and that alone will MAKE THE REDS BETTER!!!!!

wow, there are some true morons on here. Griffey was on pace to be the best player ever and he is one of the few studs who is not suspected of taking steroids. If you want to blame somebody for getting injured a few times, then so be it but that is the only thing that held him back. As far as his right field ability, Brantley and you haters out there are wrong. How did he go from a great center fielder to a poor right fielder? He didnt is your answer.

Second, Junior did in fact give up millions to play for his favorite team(unlike Brantley who chased the money his whole career). He gave up his best years to a team that promised but never delivered a winner to back him. So, if he now looks back and wonders if he made a mistake, who can blame him? And with fans like most of you I think he should. He is a class act and a rare person in a game of greed and cheats. Celebrate him, Reds fans before he is gone…

Griffey retire? Crybaby? What fools some of you are. First understand this: The Reds are like KC, a smaller market team that will not spend the money to bring in enough top-tier players to win. Why should they? As long as the seats are full then they never will. So, it is ridiculous to expect them to compete in todays baseball world. To be continued…

Hmmm….Castellini was down in Houston tonite, and Griffey isnt in the lineup tonite because Dusty says he has played every gm. since the All Star Break. True probably, but wonder if maybe he got a little benching for his outburst on Sat. too? I appreciate the Cowboy and his candid broadcasting, just like Marty! For those that dont like him, you can always watch and listen to MR.Rogers(George Grande), who wouldnt say anything bad about anyone! Brantley rules, Griffey, go home and retire!

The only thing I can say about the Reds is that they really suck right now. They are by far (as of today) the worst playing team in all MLB. There is something going on internal in the club house, and makes these players not give a s**t. And also for Walt Jockity (spelling?), if you read this and want to get back on the path of winning, first move is to get rid of Dusty Baker- he has been and always will be the worst coach in baseball. Second, fire the pitching coach Poll he just sucks!!!

Good thing that Junior didn’t play on a team with with Haray Carey announcing his games. He would not like what Harry would say about not hustling.

Question: Does Griffey listen to the games or do the Reds designate a player to listen to hear and then report on what was said about whom?

One other question. I have been watching baseball for a number of years and it always appears that the Reds have about 10 outfielders on the roster. Is that a Redleg tradition?

Hey Tony…..

We have embraced Brandon Phillips even though he had an attitude problem in the past. Race is not the issue. Stop crying every time someone complains about a black manager/player, etc. Complain about Junior’s lack of hustle or complain about a Dusty Baker decision, its a racial issue? Please. I can imagine if Adam Dunn was black, how many would be crying that we pick on him only because he is black.

Why would Griffey be thinking about Brantly after he hit a home run? Griffey is too thin skinned. Earlier in the year when he hit the walk off home run against the Pirates he was on FSN talking about the contract he signed and how things haven’t been what he has expected here. Perhaps the Reds should invest in a shrink for #3. THERE’S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL and there shouldn’t be any slash of the neck either.

Let’s be realisitc if we can. We were spoiled in the 70’s by the wininng ways of the Big Red Machine and that is what we want is a winner. Baker is a very good manager but he is Cincy Red. Stay within the core group of veterans that understand what it takes to be a winner. What about Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Tony Perez(again), Dave Concepcion,Hell bring sparky back for season or two.

Jr. overreacted but I sympathize. Jr. is constantly berated by media and fans. Even nice guys can only take so much. None of us know Jr. personnally, so I wonder how I would react in his place. How would any of us react if our bosses, spouses or neighbors constantly berated our work, even though we tried - ‘your yard looks like crap’ ‘you didn’t fold the laundry right.’ We might run out of the house and yell “F-you” for all the neighborhood kids to hear. Doesn’t mean we’re not a nice people.

Brantly is an idoit, his job is to call the game not point out mistakes. I was at the game Griffey was not playing right field poorly. A couple balls came his way that he could have dove for. Think about that, diving is good if it could save a run, but no one was on base. Griffey plays a smart right field, he knew that there was a chance he would miss the catch if he dove, allowing the runner to move into scoring position. So he played the one hop and held the runner to a single. FU Brantley

I get sick of hearing how Jr. took less money to be here. He has earned his less money. He has added nothing to this team. They were better before he got here and they will be better when he leaves. He HAS NEVER played for a winner. What do you people NOT understand about that. He is the kind of player if he hits a HR, has 2-3 RBI, makes a catch that gets him on Sports Center BUT the Reds LOSE…..he is still happy. Can’t wait til next year when he is gone.

Junior didn’t help himself on a couple of those fly balls on Saturday. At least one of those pop flies that dropped for a hit in right looked pretty catchable.

This is not the first time this kind of stuff has come up. Marty B. got the cold shoulder from Junior after he called him out for ‘Cadillacing’ a few years back and not running out ground balls.

The guy WAS a great player, but I think coming to Cinci has been bad for both the Reds and Griffey

Jr is in the downward years as a player, but if you want to throw a lot of rocks, how about good ol’ Dusty Baker. When you have 2 or 3 guys who don’t hit their weight in the top 5 lineup slots it is a manager problem. If you hit 45-50 HRs a year but do it with a .230 or so average, strike out a lot or do the lazy fly and/or infield grounder thing it won’t work. Jr s/b hitting 7, while Dunn s/b 5or 6 and Patterson a late inning defensive move. Dusty ISN’T the answer. No imagination!!!

When do people learn that 1 player does not win championships and never will in baseball. How many of you all stars fans go to work everyday and give even 100% when nothing in the world is wrong with you. Griffey had torn hamstrings I check video tapes of baseball games and the players use their legs alot. Griffey got old and he apologizes to all the fans who could do his job better then him but never got the chance too. I am amazed Griffey understood what the hell Cowboy even said.

Griffey is an All-Star who unfortunately reacted with thin skin. Brantley was a decent ball player who unfortunately is a terrible, terrible broadcaster. The Reds need to move him to another assignment or lose him. If I hear him at the beginning of a broadcast, it goes off.

Folks, please be less critical of Jr. Remember the Huge discount he gave the Reds, the 110% effort on the field and his team first attitude. We are blessed to have him on our winning playoff bound team every year.Bob C, pick up that 16.5 mil option for 2009 and keep Jr happy.

Griffey needs to shut his pie hole and wait out the last months of his career with dignity. Brantley is and was absolutely correct. The worst left fielder in baseball is Adam Dunn and the worst right fielder is Ken Griffey Jr. The reason Josh Hamilton is gone is because Griffey and Dunn didn’t like the fact that he signed so many autographs and made the sacred cows look bad. There is hope on the horizon for this club but only when these two prima donnas are gone.

Brantley is bad. The cowboy stuff is getting old real quick but that does not excuse Griffey from making a thug sign to him or anyone else. Griffey will be gone next year and thank God. He and his salary have done NOTHING for this team. He has NEVER played on a winner. Doesn’t that tell you something? He is all about his 600 HR and that is a great feat, but he and his HR have never been in a WS. They can remove him and Brantley next year and make real Reds fans very happy.

Well I was at the game Saturday and from what I watched…Brantley had every right to say what he did because it is the truth. Dunn and Griffey are the worst 2 corner outfielders that I have seen play. They never hustle after any fly balls. I think a whole lot of them need to be traded or fired…Baker.

Name 5 decent not great not good pitchers from the Carl Linder era(2000-2006). Give up you can’t. When the Reds brought in Griffey the did nothing after that. I checked Griffey’s stat in Seatle and he never once pitched there so the Reds should have done their homework. Hey but put all the blame on him for taking less money to be here. Philips said the fans only care about Hamiltons story and not about the Reds winning so maybe that is why he is gone. He could have helped make you guys a winner.

Griffey should have took the money from New York or Boston and ran. He took less money to play for Cincy and everybody still says he is all about the money. Poeple get frustrated and say things they shouldn’t like FU in front of kids. It happens in the real world. Griffey was the greatest player of the 90’s period. He got older get over. He should have just taken steroids like Bonds and gave the fans something else to p**s and moan about. What did Jeff Brantley ever do in the game ?

I have been listening to Marty and the Cowboy since they were hooked up and I really appreciate the way they call the games. I consider them to be professional men because of their experience as broadcasters and time around the sport. I think they can be negative, but at the same time I think those remarks have good foundation and I respect their opinion. I also understand how a player of Griffey’s stature can be upset, but that does not excuse his use of profanity and jestures.

Iffey Griffey! Thats what everyone I know calls this so-called high paid ball player. He was even worse when Barry Larkin and him tried to take control of the team with their demands by refusing to play. A baseball team has no I in it and these so-called high paid superstars think the world evolves around them. Once they get their big bucks, they sit on their butts while watching the money flow in. Griff’s decline the past couple of years is hurting the Reds. I would love 2 see him finish his career w/the Reds; if this is his final year. I seen/heard the F* bomb too. The 2nd televised spring training game this year Griff and coach Spier were heard getting into it. Spier said “dont take it personal”, Griff responded, “Oh, its personal you can believe that.” .235 in the 3 hole is not going to get us 2 the promise land. Bye Griff! Good luck w/hopes of a ring!

Griffey was a great player throughout most of the 90’s but the sad fact is that, like most of us middle aged guys, he just isn’t what he used to be and needs to realize that and put the best interest of the team first…..I never liked the move of bringing him to Cincy in the first place really, the team had a nice chemistry that last year before he arrived, heck, I’d take Mike Cameron over him right now, let alone back then……Fact is, this team needs to start a serious youth movement.

Tammie, Chad was never the best thing to happen to Cincy. He’s a very good wide receiver who thinks he is more important than he is — the Bengals will never win with him unless he can tally 10-12 sacks per year .. And people didn’t start trashing Ocho Stinko until he started trashing the city, organization and fans. Most ticket payers aren’t fond guys with lucrative contracts that whine about being underpaid.

Am i missing something. Junior is in his late 30s and has been playing pro ball since the late 1980s. By no he should have learned to let comments from announcers roll off his back. there is no excuse for his actions and cursing while adjacent to the stands. How is this bashing? Proper actions should be expected not excused. I am a Junior fan and apologist, I am very disappointed in his behavior. And Jeff, 11:21, are you crazy or just blind deaf and dumb. I didn’t hear the broadcast that “The Cowboy” bashed Griffey or Dunn. My favorite “The Cowboy” moment of this season was the 2nd game of the season when no sooner than “The Cowboy” said that Edwin Encarnacion was not ‘a clutch hitter’ that Edwin hit a walk-off home run.

When “The Cowboy” talks poorly about anyone on the Reds or any team one must consider the source of the comments. I believe “The Cowboy” is just a bitter retired ball player who is jealous of today’s athletes.

Why does Griffey even care what the announcers are saying about him ? They are paid to offer their opinions about the team, manager, and Reds management. Instead of arguing with broadcasters he should instaed spend more time losing some weight, showing some hustle, taking more batting practice and demand that Dusty drop him in the order as the right thing to do for the club. The guy is a prima donna of the highest order.

It kills me that people can bash Griffey and say that Dunn is the best thing that has ever happened to the Reds. I don’t disagree that Griffey is past his prime and should be lower in the batting order. However, if you compare Dunn and Griffey at the same points in there career, Jr is by far a much better player. Talking about poor play in the field, I was at the game on Friday when Dunn cost the Reds two runs in the first when he didn’t make any effort to catch a fly ball. Trade Dunn!

I just think he’s slowed down so much at the plate that it is killing this team. He in no way, shape, or form should be hitting in the three hole. A .235 hitter batting third? That is stupid and that is Dusty’s fault. I just think he’s on the downward spiral and they should try and let him go play on a contender.

To say that Griffey has been ‘roundly praised’ all his career is also to say that he has put up with ‘constant negativity’ about his performance too. He has fought hard to rehab time and time again. Everyone always wants to talk money but that’s between agents and the team. Griffey has deferred payment in the past because he is a TEAM player and there is no “I” in team. Aside from all that crap he is a decent family man who has NOT brought disgrace to the game or to the Reds.

Did Brantley say it on the air? If so, it’s seems off topic and speculative for an announcer who is supposed to enlighten us on the actual game. I for one have always been annoyed at how players salaries are publicized and talked about so much. As for Griffey, he always has been a little sensitive. I suspect it’s because he’s been roundly praised his whole career.

I do not understand what the problem is. Broadcasters trash players, the game, management all the time. Has anyone ever of Marty? He trashes players all the time. I love him…e’s hilarious, but is extremely negative and doesn’t hold back. What’s the difference?

From another Bob but one that has respect for and always will for Jr. He has always been a class act and will always be. Cannot under stand jerks like the other Bob and Mitch who want to tear him down to their level.

Here we go again! Cinn. is great at bashing its best! Chad Johnson was the best thing that arrived in Cinn. until they couldn’t win a game. Oh, I guess that was his fault! Ken Griffey Jr. was a great deal until they “continue” to have losing seasons with him.. Oh, I guess that was his fault! They are just part of the equation on both of those teams! Cinn. people are not loyal to their players……who in their right mind would want to come and play in Cinn. for either of those teams!!

Who are you people? You guys are putting down the face of the game. I don’t undestand just because he is not hitting 330 and 30 homeruns he deserves do be bashed that way. JR. is the mark that all players should try to be on and off the field. When is the last time you herd something bad in the media when it comes to that name…..

Jr deserves respect for the things he has done. He did them the right way and within the rules of the game. I say let hi play as long as he wants, he’s earned it.

He is on overpaid spoiled washed up player. Anyone who is not blinded by the name “Griffey” on the back of the jersey can see that he doesn’t give effort in the field. And why in heaven’s name is he still batting #3 in the lineup?
