Ohio Rns-Hold out for your OWN union. At OSU we are very happy with the ONA (Ohio Nurses Association) an affiliate of the ANA. Check out the wage scale and contract here http://www.osuno.com/contract.html

The Ohio Hospital Association called the non-interference agreement between CHP and the SEIU “refreshing”. This should tell you something, or at least make you ask some questions? WHY would the OHA, who has a history of antiunionism, suddenly shift course to support this deal? What did SEIU offer the hospital corporation? The time will come when the makings of this deal are exposed.
The NNOC took a very courageous and principled stand against this form of unionization, aka ‘company union’

I too am appalled at the CNa/NNOC’s disruptive & ill spirited actions. Mostly though, I am appalled that an organization of ONLY RNs would seek out and interfere with the ability of ALL hospital employees to improve their working conditions and by extension, patient care. And then try to portray it as “saving the people”. Totally disrespectful!! As for the hospitals fighting: what does collaborative agreement, a.k.a. contract, mean to CNA/NNOC members?(not that NNOC has a single one).

Let’s be very clear: CNA is NOT on the side of nurses or any other healthcare workers. No matter what justifications they give, there simply is no acceptable reason for denying 8000 workers the right to vote in an unbiased climate. CNA’s actions speak louder than any words they can produce. We must call upon all other unions to end their dealings with CNA—let management do their own dirty work if necessary.

I am a CA Nurse Alliance of SEIU Steering Committee Member and am totally outraged & appalled with CNA’s Union Busting activities. CNA’s actions are denying Health Care Workers their democratic right to Unite & join SEIU whose mission is to advocate not just for Health Care Workers but to advocate & maintain Standards of Health Care for all!!

It was management and SEIU who called off the election- not the CNA/NNOC. And it mostly nurses from California and Ohio out there, in the cold, informing workers about the problems of the deal. There was staff, for sure, but more nurses. It was SEIU who sent a boat load of staff to try and scare CNA/NNOC away. This deal was rotten for nurses. Want more info go to www.reformseiu.org. NNOC has been active for 4 years on Ohio, working for nurses and patients from the bottom up, not the top down.

Everyone needs to take a deep breath and step back. California nurses did not just show up uninvited. The National Nurses Organizing Committee/Ohio Chapter (who is a part of the CNA) asked for help to expose the backroom dealings between CHP and the SEIU. As a nurse I implore you to ask yourself this question: Is the hospital fighting against it’s employees from forming a union? If the answer is NO then one must ask WHY NOT since they have done so in the past EVERY other time…

I too find it to be an oxymoron that an organization that claims to be a union, an organization who’s sole purpose is to protect workers, showed up UNINVITED and robbed these healthcare workers of their freedom of choice. That is not only wrong, it is disgraceful and needs to stop. Everyone, healthcare worker or not should let CNA know that they need to mind their own business and let others choose freely!!!!

So how long are we as union nurses let CNA destroy the union movement in USA.CNA is only out to stop SEIU from organizing new health care member’s.Why are they not organizing the 2.1 million Rn’s that are not having the benefit of having a voice?Perhaps CNA doesn’t know how to because all they have done for the last 10 years is raid and destroy what SEIU have tried to build. Lets unite and stop CNA raiding and destruction

I find CNA’l behavior deplorable. I am a calif RN and member of SEIU 121RN local. I have been an RN for 37 years and have seen the need for a union for a long time. In fact years ago I contacted CNA to ask for their help to organize at the hospital that I worked in. Their response was to tell me we didn’t have enough RNs to make it worth theri time to help us. Now, after healthcare workers have organized, they want a piece of the action. Well CNAm,too little too late I say

As a lifelong Springfield resident and an 18 year SEIU member I would like to thenk the Springfield News Sun for the accurate reporting on this matter. I am a licensed professional that has provided services to this community for 25 years. I ofund it very offensive that the CNA pamphlets stated that nurses need a professional union. SEIU is a professional service union tht fights for their workers rights, not like the CNA that destroyed the rights of 8,000 hospital workers to vote.

Why didn’t they choose to use the Nurses Union that is already in existance in Ohio? Maybe the SEIU is good for some, but for Nurses..you need a union that understands the specific work situations of a Nurse…Over worked, under paid, under staffed and with no voice in a lot of the hospitals. It’s a shame when we are supposed to be advoctes for our patients and can not for fear of loosing our jobs.

I am appalled at the ill-spirited actions by the California Nurses Association to interfere in the effort of nurses and other hospital employees to gain a voice at their hospital.
As a registered nurse, I am ashamed that this organization claims to represent the best interest of patients and our profession.
Creating a culture of fear and misinformation comes out of the union-busting handbook – and certainly does not reflect the virtues that nursing and unions stand for.

This display of disunity by the CNA is exactly the type of behavior that gives unions a bad name. CNA touts itself as an agressive grass roots organization, but most of the public actions by CNA are predominantly paid staff people. SEIU, on the other hand, mobilizes hundreds and thousands of members in campaigns around their member’s issues. Why doesn’t the “California” nurses association (notice they don’t even call themselves a union) just stay in California.

If the California union really wanted to get involved in a productive way, it could have done so long ago. This is not about building a union, it’s about busting a union. SEIU laid the groundwork with workers who need a voice for dignity and respect on the job. The CNA dropped in at the last minute and blew it up just for the sake of busting SEIU’s organizing drive.
I am a staff member of SEIU, and we are NOT a ‘hand-picked’ union. We fight for our members and hospitals know it.
