Not sure why everyone is so hung up on him having a good time while playing. I never saw it written into a rule book anywhere that all talented players need to “shut up and play”. Chad is about the only thing this team has left that keeps us coming to the games, the defense is plain awful, Marvin is a lousy game coach, and the running game with Rudi in the backfield is a joke. I go to about 4-5 games a year at PBS and you’ll never hear that stadium louder than when Chad busts a big play.

You guys have zero clue what your talking about. Chad Johnson is part of the reason the Bengals are expected to do so much every year. He is a top 5 receiver and he shows it every Sunday. So the guy wants the ball and want to contribute, wouldn’t you rather have that then some guy who didn’t want the ball ever. There is no middle in the NFL either you want to make plays or you just want to be a role player you can’t be anything in between. I am Dayton’s biggest Bengal fan, they will come back!!!

I think that some of you guys are forgetting Chad is part of the reason we were in the playoffs two years ago.If we keep him he’ll be part of the reason again. Black, white what does it matter, my stepson wanted the #85 before he wanted the #9 jersey and we are white.He is who they look up to because he has fun.I’d rather have a guy like that, than some corncob up the butt superplayer, that doesn’t have fun and his off the field stuff is in the papers.Their are alot of players hurt this year.

Tony - The only Bullsh!t is the fact that you overlook everyone else who has received a free pass….Corey Dillon certainly did. He has the longest rap sheet of any player in the history of Cincinnati(spousal abuse, 11 arrests before age 17, selling crack cocaine, etc..). Where you aware of that? Of course not, you were too worried about fans rooting for a player who drank more than two beers and got into a car or someone who has overcome drug addiction that predated his time with the reds.

Chad is awesome. He’s like the Apollo Creed prizefighter of the NFL. He’s at the top of his game and this is just the way he rolls. His desire to be the best at what he does is evident as his acrobatic catches on the field. Hopefully more of the team plays on the same level to get the Bengals to the playoffs.

Lark - Chad Johnson jerseys are second only to Carson Palmer jerseys in Cincinnati, Tony Perez and Oscar Robertson both get warm receptions whenever they are at any local event, and everyone I know was excited when Ken Griffey came back home. I will state it again since you didn’t read it…. You know, it’s really funny to watch how the Bengals begin to point fingers as soon as they start falling apart. When they were winning it was “all good” for Chad Johnson to strut his stuff and be “Mr.Big Shot” while performing his childish(yet still pretty funny) antics as he scored a touchdown. But now that the Bengals are down and out Chad Johnson is the “bad guy”! I think people need to shut up and let him play! O yeah…GO BROWNS!

Chad needs to spend less time focusing on the hall of fame and more time thinking of what selfisness truly means it doesn’t mean your goal driven which he is “claiming” to be it means you put forth the well being of yourself before those around you and I agree is selfish and that is probably why the blame is aimed at him. Everyone has to work together for a single goal and that is reaching the BOWL. His antics take away from the true meaning of the game, why is winning not enough!

No doubt about it Chad Johnson is one of the greats and has a bright future! His stats speak for themselves. The one thing that is missed is that football is a team effort. No one player makes a team win or loose Dan Marino is a perfect example of that. He held almost every record for a quarterback but never got a ring. So its not about what you do but what your team does that truly makes you a legend, it is one thing to be a leader but to surpass that and say being selfish is good. I think

Point blank you cant be selfish for wanting the ball when you are as big a playmaker as he is. And his stats speak for themself so end of discussion on that. Since when is selfish ever good? I think you do not get the point. When he states he is selfish that means he wants the ball everytime. In you comments, that means MJ was selfish along with a lot more sport stars. What primetime sports person does not want the ball. If his atics bother you then that is one thing but because a player is saying he wants the ball to win then something is wrong. I do not see a problem with any sports player saying they want it.

I’m not so sure about his semantics, but Chad seems to be one of the few Bengals who have a passion to win, and abhor losing.

I’m not so sure his seemingly self-agrandising style is the wisest way to go about it, but Chad seems to be one of the few Bengals who wants to be the best football player he can be.

Chad loves life. Loves the game of football. Loves the fans who cheer him on. If you completely rebuild the team keeping one current player, to me it’s a toss up between Chad & Carson.

If you watch chad enough you’ll realize he isn’t going to take a hit like TJ down the middle he’ll drop the ball or not be in position to recieve the pass. Even when he catches the ball its usually along the sidelines where he quickly steps out of bounds rather then try to run and gain a few more yards. he is a prima Donna player. As I’ve stated on other forums the only quality players on the bengals are TJ and Carson. The rest of them would barly make 2nd string on any other team

I am a bills fan, and have seen chad johnson on quite a few occasions. while I do not adopt his declarations nor his antics, he seems to me to play hard in every game-has he ever been in trouble with the law, does he play on the woeful defense or special teams? I am usually unsympathetic to athletes that cry they are being singled out-but from afar it seems that Johnson may indeed be one that is-don’t the bengals have serious problems? isn’t his play one of the few positives?

Hey GO BILLS - Chad is on target to lead the AFC in receiving for the FIFTH STRAIGHT YEAR, and is also on pace to lead the league for the second year in a row. No other receiver has ever led their conference for five straight years. I am sure the Hall will have no problem calling his number when he becomes elgible. After all, they hardly hesitated to induct Michael Irvin, who was involved in drug-related charges! Chad’s anticts keeping him out of the Hall? I don’t think so!

I have no problem with Chad, his antics, or his comments. Selfish has a negative connotation, but in the NFL you have to want to be good, to perform well - if you call that selfish, then that is fine with me, so as long as that means you work your butt off in every practice, every game, and perform. Chad had some key drops against P’burgh, but I guarentee he is working doubly hard this week to fix that.

Chad should be cheered for his work ethic, just like Freel and Hamilton are. I know self-promotion doesn’t play well here in the midwest, but I think we need to lighten up a bit. As for being selfish, every single professional athlete is selfish. The only way they make it is by looking in the mirror and saying how can I make MYself better. Brady wants to be the best quarterback ever. That’s as selfish as it gets. Chad is just honest enough to say it how it is.

Chad johnson seems intelligent, articulate and extremely self confident. Selfish is the medias word, not his. He believes in himself and his abilities.He likes to have fun and pokes fun at himself, He has to be self confident in order to do so. Any man or woman who is to accomplish anything has to brlieve in their own abilities or they would never get started. If Audie Murphy or Sargent York hadnt believed in themselves they would have never approached the enemy.

It’s easy to talk about being selfish for personal goals, but Chad needs to learn from TJ how to be selfish against a defense in catching a ball over the middle, in a crowd and gaining yards after catch. He plays scared. His drops against the Steelers were critical. Carson’s frustration at route/read mistakes and hesitations are understandable…

Marvin’s problem is his defensive coor. He acts like he’s afraid to turn those guys loose.Play some man to man and we will see who’s doing their job and who’s not. This is all Marvin’s fault. If you’re the head coach then be the head coach. If the defense don’t start getting up on people, then the Bengals won’t win another game!

He is a cancer. He’s is an idiot. He is a self absorbed prima donna like many of today’s wide receivers. He is also a very good (not great as demonstrated in his tendency to drop balls) receiver.

As much as people want to beat on Chad (including me), Marvin and Mike Brown, the plan fact is that this is a very competitive league with little margin for error and when a large part of your defense does not even play due to injury, you are not going to win a lot of games.

Who cares? All players make TOO much$$$! The players earning their $$$are winning. The players losing…..just want the$$$ and that’s it. Selfish…greed….WHATEVER! Seems like the majority of the Bungals are there to collect the$$$ and then go home.Some want the spotlight and forget about winning. College…go Pro…collect the$$$…play and win or be cocky, be a trouble maker and then later on….WORK for a living!

How about when your team’s AHEAD in your 1st playoff game in 15 years but your star QB is out with his knee blown out & Chad’s in the locker room yelling he’s not getting the ball enough! How about on national TV when your team’s trailing, Chad’s showboating by yelling at his QB to let the world know that Carson, not Chad, made a mistake that led to an INT. Chad may be a star, but he’s way too selfish, immature & unprofessional, mirroring the general attitude of the Bengals.

Chad’s “selfishness is good” does not surprise me at all. It comes from Marvin’s “greed is good” philosophy that he brought to this team. Guys strive to become good players out of a selfish motive of greed, and for a while it appears that they are all on the same page. Unfortuantely, as we have seen when it reaches to a certain point you are asking for trouble. On and off the field. Marvin has to change the entire philosophy for their to be any hope.

Since when is selfish ever good? It is not good in any aspect of life let alone within a team sport. So….not only has Chad Johnson admitted he is selfish, which ought to win over his team mates, but he has shown the sports world what an idiot he is by saying “selfish is good”. I do agree with Chad and I too think it is ironic though how all the Bengal fans thought Chad’s antics were cute when the team was winning, but now that the team is losing he needs to go.
