Bengals awarded 4 compensatory draft picks
BENGALS NOW HAVE 10 PICKS IN APRIL 26-27 NFL DRAFT
The Cincinnati Bengals were awarded four compensatory draft picks by the NFL on Monday, pushing their total number of picks to 10 in the April 26-27 NFL Draft.
The Bengals get an extra pick in Round 3 (97th overall), an extra pick in Round 6 (207th), and two extra picks in Round 7 (244th and 246th).
Compensatory picks are awarded by the League for net player losses in unrestricted free agency for the previous year.
Following the 2006 season, Cincinnati lost left guard Eric Steinbach (Cleveland), defensive tackle Shaun Smith (Cleveland), wide receiver Kelley Washington (New England), cornerback Tory James (New England), linebacker Marcus Wilkins (Atlanta), free safety Kevin Kaesviharn (New Orleans) and tight end Tony Stewart (Oakland) in free agency.
The Bengals currently have 10 total selections in the 2008 draft. Prior to the compensatory pick announcement, the Bengals had one selection each in Rounds 1 through 6. The Bengals traded their original pick in round 7 to St. Louis for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick prior to the 2007 season.
In addition to player movement, a formula including salary, playing time and postseason honors determines the specific picks awarded.

A proactive team would trade some of those 10 picks to move up in the draft to nab Dorsey, Ellis, or Gholston. The Bengals on the other hand will draft all 10, with eight making the team, rookie mistakes galore follow, culminating in a 4-12 season.By Flyer-FAN

Let’s just sit back and see how the Bungles botch this up. No matter what the Bengals plan of action is, they will no doubt do something absurd that will land them back in the role of NFL laughing stock.By Jason

10 picks to solidify the O-line and D-line sounds good to me. They again made a mistake in letting Stepanovich go..they are thin as is on the O-line…By tammy

For the record you can’t trade comp picks. Don’t mock what you don’t understand. Isn’t funny how all the winning teams normally don’t use free agency or trades to build teams. Who Dey for life. If they are 10-6 you all will be singing praises. Band wagoners go root for the team up north.By BnOPanther

You can tell the fans of other teams. They are so un-educated. These picks can not be traded. Worry about your own team and us diehards will discuss our Bengals. These picks should be used to take the best possible player at that position no matter what. I say instill competion at the positions and it will lead to being competitive on the field. Just so everyone knows, there is not one player worth trading up to get this year, espically Gholston.By Randy Plessinger

I can’t believe all the negative vibes I’m getting from these comments. The law of averages are in our favor.I’m feeling good about this coming season. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. What I don’t understand is this fixation that Marvin has with keeping Chad.I don’t think Marvin will ever learn. I would be happy with some cosmetic changes to the Bengals image. As an example, 1.It’s 2008 not 1988. Can we bury the “Who Dey” crap once and for all? 2. Can we have a new design on the helmets? Even the network announcers laugh about them. Something like a plain orange helmet with a big tiger head on it? Thank You!By joel Hardman

Randy, why are dogging traditions, that’s what sports are all about: cheese heads in Wisconsin, script Ohio at Buckeye games and “Who Dey” at the Bengals games, these are the things we love about our teams. And are you kidding me about the helmets? Our helmets are the most unique out there, why in the world would you trade them out to look just as plain and boring as the rest of the NFL. As for the 10 picks, lets get ourselves a O-line and fill in some major gaps on defense.
