Blackout looms: Are the Bengals crying wolf again?

Are the Bengals crying wolf again?

Once again the team is saying it is thousands of tickets short of a sellout for a home game — 3,000 to be exact for Sunday’s game against Baltimore at Paul Brown Stadium.

Will fans step up and sell it out in time for the game to be broadcast on TV? I’m sure some will, but put your money on a combination of factors to come together to sell the game out.

Last time it was Motorola and Chad Ochocinco buying up the remaining tickets and giving them away for free.

Or perhaps the Bengals will actually be blacked out for the first time since Nov. 9, 2003, ending their streak of 48 consecutive sellouts.

On Thursday, the Bengals secured a 24-hour extension — until 1 p.m. Friday — to try and sell the game out.

We should know sometime Friday afternoon whether you’ll be able to tune in Sunday … or not.

How can they ‘cry wolf’ with this? They’ve either sold enough tickets or they haven’t.

yeah….that’s not what you call crying wolf. Crying wolf would be if they said that they needed to sell 3,500 tickets to show it on TV, but even if they didn’t sell that ammount the showed it on TV anyway, week in and week out. Someone bailing out the Bengals every week does not constitute “crying wolf”.

Browns fan here, but i must say this. Why SHOULD fans go to the game? I mean, $75 a ticket for nose bleed seats? $30 to park? $8 a beer? $5 for a hotdog? Why the heck would an average NFL fan pay that? You talking almost $500 for a family of four to go to a Bungal game. Id save my money, buy a nice new $500 flat screen tv and have the best seat in the house all season long! The beer is a heck of a lot cheaper in my living room. Great thing is, when the Bungals DONT sell out, I get the Browns on Channel 7!!

There are only so many folks in Ohio that can/will spend the outrageous costs for tickets and sundries. And then, the NFL punishes the fans who can’t afford it by blackouts. Huh??

By hatestheBrowns

November 5, 2009 12:34 PM | Link to this

To NickM - If you park @ Newport for $5 and take the shuttle, it’s only $6 total to “park” not $30, the tickets can go for less than $75 each and you don’t HAVE to buy beer…BUT at least you’d be rooting for a WINNING TEAM !!!!!!!!!!! You poor pathetic Browns fan!

I have been a Bengals fan through it all, but I can’t brong myself to pay $64 per tickets, which approaches $150 for 2 tickets with taxes and fees, to sit in to top of that stadium. I have sat there before and they at terrible seats. Especially with my new 50” plasma and home theater system.

By crying wolf

November 5, 2009 12:56 PM | Link to this

How are they crying wolf? They aren’t crying wolf by saying it isn’t sold out…but each of the last 3 home games they have said “we have so many to sell and if not sold it will be blacked out” and then they/someone goes and buys the tickets. So, like the boy who cried wolf, the organization may just be ignored saying this once again because fans “know” it won’t really happen…or will it?

The NFL needs to quit giving these losers extensions. They do not belong on TV. I can’t wait until Monday night. The six-time superbowl champions (Steelers) will be playing. FORGET THE BUNGALS!

Hey NickM, I’d rather pour bleach in my eyes than watch that pathetic team you root for. The browns wouldn’t win the Mountain West Conference.

We already dispatched the Squealers once this year and will again. No one wants to watch those losers or the Clowns!

This is the NFL’s problem…MLB airs all the Reds games, and they are no where near sold out. Ohio is one of the hardest hit during this recession, NFL should step up and televise games. People cannot afford the high prices right now. Hey Bungaland, why are you even on this site, trying to read about a real team? I hate *hitsburg, so I do not go to their sites and read about them, but wait you probably live around here. You like the Steelers now, but you were also a big Cowboy and Bills fan in the 90’s, probably FSU and Miami fan as well back then, right? Good luck with your bandwagon, might empty some when they finish 3rd in the division this year. Go UC and Who Dey!!!!

By bungaland - who cares how many times the Steelers won the super bowl? What people like you and others don’t understand is the past is the past and who cares about the past. This is the now and present which is all that matters. Yes the Steelers game will be a good game but I live in southern Ohio and support my local community unlike you. Did you root for the opposite team in High School also? The only reason the Steelers have a big following is because so many people only like teams that win instead of being loyal to their team. I know so many kids that became Steeler fans when they were little because the Steelers have a consistant team. I stick to my favorite team even if they don’t win. Bottom lne is shut up and don’t come to a Bengals blog if you don’t like the Bengals — we all think you are a loser

“Bengals will actually be blacked out for the first time since Nov. 9, 2003, ending their streak of 48 consecutive sellouts.” If the game is announced a blackout, but then they sell all the tickets before kickoff, the consective sellout streak would still be intact. The no blackout streak would end. There is a difference between the 2 streaks, if anyone really cares. Who Dey!

They don’t seelout because even thier own so called fans know thier present record is a farce. While not a fan of any of these teams mentioned, the Bengals historically have given false impressions of becoming a football team and then implode on themselves. That’s why thier own players don’t even want to be there.

I wouldn’t walk out the doors of our high school to watch the bengals play for free, less of course they were playing Pittsburgh.

The Bengals?? c’mon, every single year they do the same thing. their good for a few games then lose the rest of the season! I dunno why people even care anymore, its never gonna change! Its the Same thing every season, every game. Do you know why their not selling out? BECAUSE THEIR A JOKE AND A DISGRACE TO CINCINNATI! by them saying Every sunday “we are gonna blackout the game” thats just showing how many people finally gave up on the BenGALS. Hate on these comments all you want but everyone who reads em knows their true no matter if you admit it or not!

By Steel the Show

November 5, 2009 2:52 PM | Link to this

I agree with Colts#1, it has been the same exact thing for the last couple years. i dont see it ever changing. The bengals are not worth the money they use to paint the inzone! they are a disgrace and a burden on cincinnati and to Ohio!

I’ve always maintained that NFL blackouts violate the federal restraint of trade act, since the games are only blacked out in certain areas and not everywhere. I think it would make an interesting lawsuit.

Hey colts, it’s “they’re”. It’s funny how you like to criticize others with your unintelligible, misspelled rant that was only intended to pick a fight. I don’t recall being 5-2 the last couple of years. How is that the same? Because a team does something once, then they always do it? I used to crap my pants as a baby, but I grew out of it. Times change.

I wasn’t talking spit, just commenting on your lack of ability to express yourself. My guess is the Bengals will be in Cincinnati and the Colts will be Indy at the end of the season.

By Bandwagon

November 5, 2009 5:06 PM | Link to this

Cincinnati fans are the biggest bandwagon jumpers ever!! Five years ago, you couldn’t find bengal stuff anywhere, they have a few nonlosing seasons, and everyone is wearing orange and black. Hopefully after a winning season, the fans will learn how to act like winners. The last time I was at PBS the cincy fans were all drunk and acting horrible to the other fans.

There are some bandwagon fans for the bengals (nothing compared what you have in Indy and Shittsburgh), but calling every bengals fan a bandwagoner is rediculous. Just becuase we know we finally have a good team and want to talk about it does not make us badwagon fans. Get Real, and for all you haters how about you go post on your own message boards. Or are they too hard to find since your not from the area?

By NickM

God I love Bungal fans. The laughing stock of the NFL for the last 15 plus seasons and they finially win a few games. Now they think theyre so high and mighty that they have to bash the Browns. FOR WHAT? We know we stink this year. Its not like Bungal fans dont know the feeling. I tell ya what Bungal fans, when you win something worth mentioning, you can bash us. And please, stop bragging about the two Super Bowls you lost 20 years ago. It just makes you look stupid and your team look more pathetic. Enjoy your season. Just remember, you havent won anything yet.

By NickM

November 6, 2009 12:23 PM | Link to this

By the way, I love how whenever Bungal fans bash Cleveland, the first words out of their mouths is “Well at least we have been to a Super Bowl.” Then, when Steeler fans talk trash to Bungal fans, and Bring up their 7 titles, Bengals fans jump to “Yea, well that was in the past. It doesnt matter.” Listen Bungal fans, life will be so much easier for you if you just come to terms with a few facts. 1) Until Mike Brown sells, you will never win a Super Bowl. 2) Natti fans are bandwagon. Check out UC for proof. 3) The best part of the Natti is in Kentucky. Lots of luck Bungal fan.

The solution: Don’t have blackouts if under 100% tickets sold. That will get the owner’s attention.

The BenGALS are a joke, always have been, always will be. everyone always thinks the bengals are doin good the first six games then uh oh, they lose the rest of the season. TJ got smart and rolled out, as did Cory Dillon, anyone who stays with the bengals should be institutionalized (for you bengals fans, that means they should be in an institute somehwere) like Jail, a mental hospital, things like that. We’ll see what you lames have to say during the playoffs when the bengals Blow it mid season like always. .

By Matt

I like how they get on the Dayton Daily site, 40 minute away from the nati and are calling us bandwagon fans. I honestly believe Pittsburg has the largest bandwagon base, and there’s even officials who joined the bandwagon because you guys always get that phantom call to determine a game. And who’s the real loser, you’re going into a bengals blog to be an idiot. Go to your own site where you guys can talk about how you’re the worst fans in sports.

ok well lets go through this. the browns are making a run for the worst team in NFL history. the colts are really good but if u have to make fun of another good team u have self esteem issues. and finally steeler fans are the biggest fair weather fans ever especially if you live in ohio

5-2 can’t sell out versus the ravens - tax right off for krogers, you’ll be paying for it next time you buy groceries there - a nickel more per pound for your hamburger and for your gallon of milk - take care

November 8, 2009 1:57 PM | Link to this

Oh So Stinko, you’d rather have a sister do it rather than your mom? She’s one of the best workers at the hole in the wall. What a natural. So if the bengals did bad before, that means nobody is ever allowed to root for them? How is that bandwagon? Didn’t the colts used to stink? Are you Peytons balls swinger? Yes, UC is doing well, but people aren’t allowed to root for them b/c they used to stink? Idiots.
